Water Week – “Day at Climbers Run” Eco Tour
June 6 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm UTC+0
DTU will support 2021 Water Week on June 6 at Climbers Run Nature Center 226 Frogtown Road, Pequea. Other local conservation partners joining that day will be Community Wildlife Habitat, Water Quality Volunteer Coalition, and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Program hours that day will be 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
DTU will conduct two stream “eco-tours” on a section of Climbers Run, one beginning at 10:00 AM and a second at 12:00 PM. Local conservationist and DTU Conservation Co-chair Greg Wilson will lead the tour and will discuss the who, what, and why of stream restoration work. Participants will learn how cold water streams are assessed and best management practices are designed to address pollution problems. During the tour, Mike Brown of Water Quality Volunteer Coalition will discuss how volunteer citizen scientists monitor water quality to assure restoration improvements are working.
In addition to the tours, Donegal Trout will be conducting fly casting demonstrations and inviting interested parties to try their hand at casting a line. The chapter and other partners will have information booths for more information sharing opportunities so attendees can learn how to get involved to improve the environment.
Climbers Run Nature Center is owned and operated by the Lancaster Conservancy to further its mission of Saving Nature. More information, including a participant safety notice, can be found at https://www.lancasterconservancy.org/water-week/events/
