Outreach and Education

Before COVID-19 protocols virtually eliminated most direct face-to-face activities, Donegal Trout Unlimited maintained an active education and outreach schedule to promote conservation organization with all age groups in Lancaster County.

The established classroom program, designed for grades three through 12, is Trout in the Classroom.  To date, Donegal TU has sponsored 25 of them and, in most years, tries to add four more each year.

Membership meetings often have world-class speakers on a variety of topics, and many organizations request presentations.  In addition, eco-tours are provided so that a variety of audiences can see what scientific stream restoration projects can accomplish.  Landowners, including farmers, are provided with workshops to learn about best management practices available to reduce pollution, remove invasive plants, and promote healthy ecosystems.

When life returns to normal, all of these will be offered again.

Meanwhile, the Chapter’s board of directors has an education committee which is studying how to improve and expand education programs.

Included in this will be an improved website designed to educate, inform, and become a resource for environment educators and parents.
