DTU Nursery Moves To New Home

The Donegal Trout Unlimited Nursery is undergoing relocation, shifting from Millport Conservancy to the Penn State South East Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SEAREC) located at 1446 Auction Rd in Rapho Township.

The expansive 155-acre SEAREC houses an impressive array of over 50 projects, experimenting with diverse ideas and methods related to farming crops, annual and perennial flowers, and various horticultural crops. Moreover, it serves as a showcase where farmers, industry professionals, consumers, and students can witness experiments and seek advice from scientists.

The PSU AEC staff, in collaboration with DTU, have meticulously planned the layout of the new .46-acre plot. The fresh site comprises a 92' by 211' bed, equipped with underground water lines to support an automatic sensor and timer sprinkler system, electrical hookup, staging area, and ample space for potential expansion.

The Penn State Center employees, along with the assistance of donated time from Flyway Excavation, have done the groundwork, including grading the site, laying stone walkways, and setting up the underground watering system. The plant relocation to this new site is scheduled for the first week of August. Following this, DTU members will proceed to construct a specialized 14' by 8' shed to meet their specific needs. The DTUplaque at Millport Conservancy will also find a new home at the Nursery's new location.

Presently, DTU is actively searching for a skilled Nursery Coordinator to oversee the trees and plants at the SEAREC site. If you are interested in this position or desire further information, please reach out to Sarah Xenophon.
